The heart of downtown Auckland has been separated from it's harbour edge for a hundred years by its ports and wharfs. The redevelopment of Princes Wharf has now revitalised the waters edge. The public are no longer locked out and have a grandstand to the Waitemata Harbour. Princes Wharf is now host to the Hilton Hotel, 300 residential apartments, 14,000 square metres of commercial space, 680 car parks and many cafes and restaurants. The wharf was strengthened with 15 new groups of raking piles that were fixed to the underside of the wharf via an energy dissapator. FINALIST IPENZ BUILDING AND CONSTRUCTION SUPREME AWARD 2001. |
